Cinnamon is commonly used in cakes, muffins, cookies, tea, alcoholic beverages, and numerous other edible goods. But did you know it can be beneficial in beauty products and around the home? Check out these ideas for alternative uses for cinnamon:
1| Lip Plumper
If you want to temporarily plump your lips, cinnamon can give you the look you want! The cassia oil in the cinnamon will irritate the mucous membrane and increase blood circulation to the area, creating a fuller look for your lips. Before apply cinnamon to your lips, use Vaseline as your base to prevent a severe irritation.
2| Freshen Your Breath
No one wants bad breath but it’s bound to happen from what we eat, if we’re sick, or other oral issues. If you are using proper oral hygiene and still have an issues with a bad mouth odor, you’ll definitely want to talk to your dentist and physician. Sweeter breath is as easy as chewing on a few cinnamon sticks!
3| Bug Repellant
Cinnamon is a natural way to repel bugs. They can’t stand the smell! Sprinkle the spice in a line around the point of entry and the little creepy crawlers won’t cross it. If they’re getting into the kitchen drawers, place a stick or two in the back of the drawers. Bonus — they smell good to humans if you’re fond of cinnamon.
Growing up, I remember my grandparents using moth balls in closets and storage areas. The smell was awful! If you combine a few cinnamon sticks with ½ cup of cloves and ½ cup whole peppercorns. Put these in a little drawstring back and hang in your closets.
4| Air Freshener
Cinnamon (especially when paired with apples!!) is one of my absolute favorite scents for my home. My son’s girlfriend said she immediately knew what lotion and body spray to get me for Christmas this year after learning how much I love the sweet and spicy fragrance.
5| Reduce Your Sugar Levels
Are you a diabetic? Great strides have been made in the world of diabetes. By taking cinnamon pills on a daily basis, you can lower your sugar levels. 6| Feeling Icky? Try a Little in Your Tea!
Cinnamon ACV tea is excellent for controlling breath odor, keeping blood sugar balanced, and lots of other amazing benefits like its ability to help you to improve arterial health, aiding in the prevention of heart disease. All you need is a cup of hot water, some lemon slices, cinnamon, a few tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, and a tablespoon or two of honey, depending on the amount of sweetness that you prefer.
