Creamy Chocolate Mousse is a classic treat that everyone will love! Try it with whip cream and a cherry or orange slices for a unique twist.

Chocolate is one of the most delectable flavors on earth — well, at least in my opinion! Mousse makes this treat sound fancy but honestly, it’s super simple. Four ingredients (five if you add the orange zest — I highly recommend doing so!) and you’ll have a treat that can be served in a plain bowl or dress it up in a fancy dish to impress.

Ingredients|
2½ cups heavy cream, divided
8 oz. high-quality semi-sweet chocolate chips or baking chocolate
¼ cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
Optional: 1 teaspoon orange zest (this adds a yummy pop of flavor!)
Serving Options:
Whipped cream, maraschino cherries, and/or mandarin orange slices
Serve in cute cups, martini glasses, champagne flutes, or the appetizer spoons pictured below.
Directions:
- Heat 1 cup of heavy cream with chocolate chips over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, until chips have melted. Remove from heat and set aside.
- In a medium bowl, beat eggs and sugar with a hand-held mixer at medium speed for 3-minutes.
- While mixing on the same setting as above, slowly add the melted chocolate mixture to the egg mixture. Once combined, pour back into the pan used to melt the chocolate. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened.
- Remove from heat and cool slightly before transferring to the refrigerator to chill for 2 hours.
- Once chilled, whip the remaining heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the chilled chocolate into the whipped cream until thoroughly combined. The mixture should have a fluffy consistency. .
- To serve, spoon chocolate mousse into a piping bag and pipe into small dessert dishes. Top with whipped cream and maraschino cherries or mandarin oranges, if desired. Enjoy!

Many mousse recipes include alcohol. This is completely tasty without; but if you’d like to make these for adults, my favorites include Tennessee Fire and Tennessee Apple. But feel free to experiment and add your favorite to suit your personal taste.
Coffee is another tasty addition! I like to let a tablespoon of freshly-brewed coffee sit for a while then add it to my mousse. It seems to really give the chocolate a boost if it’s a little on the strong side.
