Easy to Make Dipped Christmas Butter Cookies are Tasty!

When I was a child, I can remember one of the biggest reasons I looked forward to Christmas was for the tins of butter cookies! You couldn’t find them in the stores year-round like you do now. At my grandparent’s, you never knew if you were opening a tin of cookies or a sewing kit. My grandpa was always filling them full of thread, needles, thimbles, etc. I don’t sew as much as she did, so I use a mini cookie tin for my sewing kit. My kids think it’s kind of weird, but hey, it’s nostalgic!

These easy butter cookies are going to become your go-to recipe for more than just Christmas! You can use any color of candy melts and sprinkles to fit whatever theme you’re going for. Plus they’ll always taste good! And when it comes to making homemade cookies, I always recommend using butter instead of shortening.

How to Make Dipped Christmas Butter Cookies:

Heat oven to 400°F. Combine butter, sugar, egg and extract in mixer.

Blend at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Add flour and salt, and blend at low speed until well mixed. Divide and use food coloring by mixing in each color.

To make the cookies, insert a 1M tip into pastry bag. Fill bag with cookie dough. If it’s hard to pipe add the 1 tablespoon water. Warming the piping bag with your hands will help to pipe out the cookies. Do this in a rotated motion on to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Bake for 5 to 8 minutes, or until slightly golden. Remove to a cookie rack and let cool. Once cool fill with jam or filling of choice.

Melt candy melts in microwave as directed. Carefully dip the cookies into the candy melts and place on rack to dry. Sprinkle before drying with Christmas sprinkles. Let fully dry and then store in air tight container.
