Homemade Eggnog is the perfect holiday drink! Check out our alcohol and non-alcohol recipes available. Skip the store-bought version this year and opt for better flavor!

Homemade Eggnog will be the star of any holiday event!
Homemade Eggnog looked like a ton of fun in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation; but admittingly, I was disappointed the first time I tried a batch. I’m not sure if it was the whole raw eggs thing or what. I didn’t like it. It wasn’t until many years later that I discovered I could make it at home. It was amazing! Ever since, I haven’t bought anymore from the store.
This recipe can easily be adjusted to be alcoholic or non-alcoholic. If you want to make a batch for 21+, simply add your favorite rum, bourbon, or cognac, tasting as you go until it’s perfect. Please be aware that it will make your eggnog a little thinner.

Ingredients for Homemade Eggnog:
12 eggs
1¼ cups sugar
4 cups whole milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 cups evaporated milk
2 cups half & half
Optional: Rum, Bourbon or Cognac – to taste
Optional Garnish:
Whipped cream
Cinnamon sticks
Dash nutmeg

Instructions:
Combine eggs and sugar in a medium bowl and whisk until thoroughly combined. Transfer to a saucepan and stir in whole milk, vanilla extract, and ground nutmeg.
In a separate bowl, stir evaporated milk and half and half until combined. Set aside.
Heat egg mixture over medium-low heat while stirring constantly to prevent the milk from scorching. When mixture reaches 160 degrees on a candy thermometer, remove from heat and slowly whisk in evaporated milk mixture.
Cool slightly before tasting. Add more sugar or nutmeg and alcohol, if desired, before transferring to an airtight container. Refrigerate overnight or until thoroughly chilled. Serve in mugs and garnish with whipped cream, cinnamon sticks, and/or a dash of nutmeg, if desired. Enjoy!
