Headaches can be very debilitating and however, they’ve been brought on, once you have one it’s hard to concentrate on what you’re doing. Here’s how to help get rid of a headache.
Drink More Water
Most headaches are caused by a lack of water in the body. Starving your body from water, will eventually cause headaches so to avoid any in the first place, it’s important to keep your body hydrated. If a headache comes on then it’s useful to drink as much water as you can. That will hopefully relieve the headache after a while. You should aim to drink a liter of water a day and if you’ve had alcohol the night before, try to drink a pint of water or two before going to bed.
Remove Strong Scents
Scents can play a role in causing head pain. Certain scents that are really overpowering can be a recurring problem like perfume for example. The best perfume for migraine sufferers is going to be ones that are either fragrance-free or made from a natural product instead of chemicals. So one of the things you may want to do is to remove your current perfume to see if that’s what’s causing the headaches. The same can be done for any body sprays/deodorants that you use that are fragranced.
Sleep It Off
In most situations, getting some shut-eye will hopefully get rid of your headache. Headaches can often come on due to lack of sleep or straining your eyes. So if you’re spending too much time in front of your computer at work, that might be the problem that’s causing your headaches in the first place. Get yourself into a darkened room and get some sleep for an hour or two. That might be the solution!
Magnesium is an important mineral that’s necessary for many functions that happen in the body. Not everyone gets enough magnesium and making sure you eat the right foods will help with this. However, that’s sometimes not enough or possible, so it’s worth taking magnesium supplements to help raise the levels. Be careful with magnesium though as this can cause digestive side effects that you might not prefer to have, so make sure to consult your doctor.
Limit Your Alcohol
Alcohol is a main contributor to headaches because they cause dehydration in the body. It causes the body to lose fluid at a faster rate than normal, and that’s what causes the dehydration which gives you the hangover the next morning. So try to limit the amount of alcohol you have on a weekly basis. Try cutting it out where possible or at least drinking more water so that you can potentially combat the amount of fluid you’re losing.
Getting a headache is something that we all have occasionally, so hopefully, these tips will help to prevent them from happening on a regular basis. Drink plenty of water and stay away from alcohol which dehydrates the body. Don’t forget to try sleeping it off too!
