Hot summer days call for an Ice Cream Soda! They’re even better when you use homemade chocolate syrup!

Ice Cream Soda – An Old Time Favorite That’s Still Tasty
Gone are the days of the soda fountain diners. If they are still hanging on, they’re few and far between. I’ve heard many older generations reminisce over the diners, often saddened by the modern upgrades that completely change the experience.
An ice cream soda is more than an easy treat. It’s actually a complex design that few can replicate. I’m going to help you bring the experience to your own home! The contrast of flavors and textures provide for a unique experience that will fill all of your senses.

Ingredients and Supplies:
Chocolate Syrup Ingredients:
½ cup water
½ cup white sugar
1/3 cup unsweetened dark cocoa powder
1 teaspoon real vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon salt
Soda Ingredients:
1 cup club soda
3 cups vanilla ice cream
For Garnish:
Whipped cream
Mini-chocolate chips
Maraschino cherries
Instructions:
To prepare the chocolate syrup, combine the water, sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and salt in a small skillet set over medium heat. Whisk vigorously until the sugar is dissolved and the cocoa powder is thoroughly incorporated into the mixture, approximately 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat.
Add a large spoonful of chocolate syrup to each serving glass and top with enough club soda to fill each glass halfway. Divide the ice cream between the glasses and top with additional chocolate syrup.
To serve, top each ice cream soda with a generous amount of whipped cream, mini-chocolate chips, and a maraschino cherry. Enjoy!
